Bat Dog?
"Folks who make and sell Halloween costumes have a most unlikely target customer this year: Fido.
More precisely, dog owners. Spending on Halloween costumes for pets -- mostly dogs, but occasionally cats --will hit a record $370 million this year, up nearly 20% from last year's $310 million, reports the National Retail Federation.
Sales of pet costumes, though still relatively small, are the industry's fastest-growing area. They're up double-digits the past three years in a row at Rubie's Costume, says Howard Beige, executive vice president.
'Dogs are getting as many popular-character licenses as kids,' he says.
Costume makers say the Spot-on trend for dogs this year is the wave of new, licensed costumes for pets -- such as dogs dressed as giant Tootsie Rolls, Heinz ketchup bottles or, for the more heroic canines, Bat Dog. Many of these costumes fetch close to $20 each.
'People just don't skimp on their pets,' says Michael Gatti, executive director of the National Retail Federation's marketing arm. 'They'll cut corners on themselves, but not on their pets.'"
I love dogs in hats as much as the next pet lover, but I have to admit, we over-do it way too easily.
Most dogs have to be taught not to chew their collars, harnesses, and clothes, why? Because it is their natural instinct. They were not born with a collar around their neck or harness around their middle so they have to be trained to ignore it, this same principle applies to clothes. Animals have to be trained not to tear up their "accessories." Teaching can take time, time spent in frustration that could have just as easily been spent in enjoyment with your family. So instead of giving you and your pet a headache, leave the Bat Dog costumes at the store!
Plans, Ideas, and Farmers Markets
For years I dreamed of having my own business, and, funny thing about dreams, I always thought it would be easy, perfect, that everything that I did would be a wonderful success. Unfortunately, that dream was an impossibility.
That being said, my attempt at selling pet bandannas and "Owner Accessories" at Bradley County Farmer's Market North was utterly fruitless. I figured it would be slow but I quickly learned that few people came to this farmer's market as compared to the older one in the center of town. Considering this I also figured out that the people who came in were mostly older people who did not have any pets. For a while I considered going back the next Saturday and trying again, but to what end? The people coming in were not the target market.
Several ideas went through my mind, but eventually I decided to try the farmers market in the center of town. A family we know comes recently began coming to the market and offered to share a space with us and we accepted. Starting this Thursday, we will be teaming up with this family to sell next to the Five Point Museum in downtown Cleveland, TN. If you would like to drop by and check us out, feel free!

Ramblewood Circle's Fourth of July Parade
Attention!
Employees from Doggy 'Dannas will be in Ramblewood Circle's (Cleveland, TN) annual Independence day parade!
The parade is a good, old-fashioned, dress-up-your-dog-and-your-lawn-mower parade that ends in a small cul-de-sac off of Ramblewood Circle. Some of my family and friends will be there and my little puppy and I will certainly be there! If you haven't picked up a bandanna for your cook out, this would be a great time to check them out!
The parade starts at 10:00 am. So come and check it out!
